Northern Pass held its third community open house in Coӧs County this week on Wednesday night in Stewartstown as the project continues outreach to residents and landowners to share information and listen to feedback about its proposed route.

More than 115 local and area residents attended the open house at the Spa Restaurant in West Stewartstown. All interested members of the public were welcome to attend, but the event was focused on the residents of Stewartstown and Clarksville. Maps of the route through each community, visual simulations from nearby locations, and an interactive maps based computer program allowed residents and landowners to get a detailed view of the propose route.

The proposed route in Clarksville and Stewartstown includes two sections of underground construction along public roads. Northern Pass has proposed a 2,300-foot section for the Route 3 crossing in Pittsburg and Clarksville, and a 7.5-mile section along state and town roads in Clarksville and Stewartstown. The project proposed these underground sections to address public feedback regarding concerns over potential view impacts and to complete an improved route through the North Country. At the open house, Northern Pass had underground construction experts on hand to discuss the construction process and answer questions from residents and abutters.

Project representatives also shared details regarding tax revenue the project will provide to the state and local communities – estimated to be $28 million each year. In Stewartstown, the project is estimated to create more than $1.9 million* in new municipal and local education tax payments and in Clarksville, the project is estimated to create more than $300,000*. For a full list of tax benefits for communities along the route, visit our “In My Town” section of the website.

Northern Pass is eager to meet with residents, share information, and get their feedback about the new proposed route. If you were not able to attend the event this week, the Northern Pass team will be in Pittsburg and Groveton next. The full schedule of open houses is posted on our website and will be updated soon with additional events.
